Common questions
What does the GovInbox plugin do?
The plugin gives your AI assistant a research toolset for federal contract records: open notices and opportunities, grants, agency feeds, award history, subawards, notice checklists, notice record briefs with version compare, protest-risk checks, recompete tracking, teaming-partner research, FAR clause lookup, and a watchlist with deadline reminders. Results are shown as published. The plugin does not recommend bids, judge eligibility, suggest partners, or predict new solicitations.
Do I need an account to use the plugin?
No. Without an account you get 3 searches per UTC day and 10 per UTC month. A free GovInbox sign-in raises that to 20 searches per UTC month. Both limits apply at once for anonymous use. Unused searches do not carry over.
What counts as one use?
One accepted search counts as one use, no matter how many records come back. Follow-up calls (opening records, comparing versions, listing awards or subawards) within 30 minutes after a search do not count extra, up to 30 follow-ups per search. Empty results consume the search. A lookup for a record that does not exist is not charged. Bad arguments and errors never count. Each retry of a search counts as a new search, as does each call for another page of search results. Chat messages, setup, and tool discovery do not count. Limits reset at midnight UTC; monthly limits reset on the first of the month.
What is a receipt?
When you open a notice record brief, you get a receipt along with it: a random ID, a hash of the inputs, the method version, and the time. You can hand that receipt back to the compare tool to see what changed in the record. Receipts are private to you and expire at the time shown in expires_at. They cannot be replayed by someone else.
The plugin says my quota is used up. What now?
Daily limits reset at midnight UTC and monthly limits on the first of the month. If you keep hitting the limit, sign in free at mcp.getgovinbox.com/signin to move from 10 to 20 calls a month.
A notice looks wrong. What should I do?
Email [email protected] with the notice number and what looks off. GovInbox copies public records from SAM.gov and other government sources; we fix our copy when it is wrong, and we always point you to the original record for dates and requirements before you respond to anything.
How do I delete my data?
Email [email protected] from the address on your account and tell us what to delete. Requests are completed within 30 days. Anonymous plugin receipts expire on their own; to delete one early, include the receipt ID in your message. See the privacy page for what is kept and for how long.
How do I cancel?
Cancel any time from your account page. Billing runs through Stripe. Your access keeps working until the end of the period you paid for, then stops. Watchlists and bookmarks are deleted 30 days after the subscription ends.
Can I connect my AI agent directly, without the ChatGPT plugin directory?
Yes. Use the GovInbox MCP server URL directly:
https://mcp.getgovinbox.com/plugin
Paste that URL into your AI agent's MCP server or custom connector settings. This works with Claude, ChatGPT (create a custom MCP server), Cursor, and any other MCP-compatible client. Anonymous use gets 3 calls per day and 10 per month; a free GovInbox sign-in raises that to 20 calls per month.
